happy october…

My favorite month of the year is here!!! Why do I love thee, let me count the ways: fall is here, Halloween, my birthday, weather is so nice and crisp, did I mention my birthday, the leaves are turning colors, etc.

Not much happened in September. Diego started school and I think there are a lot of learning pains for him. And for us as well because new experiences for him mean new parental learning for us. The hard part is knowing that there is a school Diego and a home Diego. And we are trying to get both Diegos to be the one and the same. We are working on it.

Anyhoo, enjoy October. Laters!

back to school…

We how have a brand spankin’ new kindergardener!!!

My Kindergardner

We walked him to his school this morning. The playground was packed with kids and parents. It was so packed that the kids couldn’t even really play and meet up with their friends. We got there at 8:45 so the teachers were already out there looking for their kids. Our class finally got together and we all marched to the building and into the classroom.

The first thing in order was finding their name in their cubbies. Then they had to go find their name on the table where they will be sitting.

His Table (number 2)

Not a problem for Diego. He knew one kid from his table since he was in the other pre-k class from last year. Otherwise, the other four kids were new to him.

I have to confess: I did cry. The funny thing is that I didn’t even feel like crying at all. It happened when his teacher said it was time for the parents to go home. Diego got up from his chair and gave us a big hug. That is when I lost it. I am such a sap. 😛

When I picked him up from afterschool care, he was very happy. He seemed to have had a great day. He was full of information and easily shared. Unlike last year which it felt like pulling teeth for him to tell us. I hope that continues for the rest of the year.

And as for Mia, she started crying when we all left. I felt so bad for her. She is going to miss her big brother for sure.

And Another One

apple picking time…

It was that time of year again when we go apple picking at Apple Holler. We were checking all last week and this week to see if the Honey Crisp apples were ready for pickin’. Eric called and sure enough, they were.

my family
We couldn’t have asked for a better day.  The weather was fantastic: sunny with puffy white clouds. In the 60’s, probably 70’s in the sun. Not windy at all.

Cruch!

And of course after we picked and stuffed ourselves with the apples, we did the tractor ride, all the kiddie activities (go carts [Diego by himself this year!!!], the train ride, pony ride [only Diego] and the playground), and the petting zoo. They always have so much fun that Diego will be asking random times during the year if we can go apple picking.

And as always, I can’t wait for next year!

Summer…

is winding down.  Granted, there is about three more weeks of summer left but you can feel that autumn is starting to move in.

We’ve had our highs (Michigan City vacation) and we had our lows (Eric’s unemployment status).  Diego will be starting kindergarden in a week 🙂 and Mia will be losing her playmate ;(

Diego will be starting a new soccer league today.  Two times a week practice for ten weeks and games on Saturdays for 8 weeks.  I hope it doesn’t get to cold by the beginning of November.  I am sure he’ll have fun regardless of the weather.

I will probably start planning Mia’s birthday party soon.  We think it will be on November 7 and I am debating Dora or Backyardigans theme.  Very important decision you know.  I’ll figure it out.

It has been a wonderful summer but my favorite season is coming.  So many things to look forward to: school starting, my birthday, Halloween, Mia’s birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and much, much, much more.

25 days…

Until the first day of school! I still can’t believe Diego is going to kindergarden. It is what it is. *sigh*

We have pretty much bought all the school supplies from the list (just missing a pack of dry erase markers). We just need Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues and paper towels.

I have ordered his uniforms and just waiting for them do be delivered. Not a big fan of him wearing a uniform to school but it does same me time and money on buying any other types of clothes. He has to mostly wear a white shirt and navy blue pants/shorts. What bums me out is that I can’t really buy him too much regular clothes. Oh well!

I think we are ready for kindergarden and I think Diego is too. Bring it!

sad day…

I found out that Eric lost his job today. After twelve years of being a loyal employee. I really thought it was going to happen to me before him so I feel guilty about that. He did not do anything wrong. It just did not work out.

Eric will survive this. He will find a better job at a company who wants him.

We will be fine. We will survive. We will become stronger because of this.

Tomorrow will be another day.

he’s FIVE…

He is 43 inches tall (grew three inches in one year) and weighs 42 pounds. He is right in the middle of the curve. Eric is convinced that he is going to be short. I think he will be fine. He got one shot and one finger prick which he did fine.

As of yesterday, he had been introduced to Silly Banz, the regular Legos and the Leaptser2. He got so much stuff for his birthday, it looked like Christmas in our house.

And I wanted to add that he got a haircut. The shortest it has ever been. Not sure if I like it though but he still looks very handsome. 🙂

So know I have an official five year old going to kindergarden in the fall. How time flies!!!

He's FIVE

Happy birthday Diego!!! I love you!
