Back Home…

Well, I did have to spend the night at the hospital. I was discharged at 3:30 and got home before 4 pm. I was so happy to see Diego. I missed him a lot.

The surgery went well. I have two small cuts on my belly. My throat is very sorry and I really can’t speak a lot because I start gagging a bit. My right arm is also very sore. Not sure what happened there. They did take some x-rays to make sure nothing was wrong. The orthopedist came by and told me that it is probably it was just a small blood clot and eventually will go away. Just make sure to keep my arm elevated and iced. I can’t pick up anything over 10 pounds which really sucks because I can’t carry Diego for about 2 weeks.

I had a good welcome home. My parents came home with some fajitas, my brother brought me some chicken noodle soup and my in-laws brought some beef stew. We now have food for the rest of the week and weekend.

My stomach is not bothering me much. I guess that is a good thing. I can’t wait to feel better and be able to the stuff I was doing before this happened. But at least I will no longer have another gallbladder attack ever again. Yay!

Surgery…

Well it is now official:  my gallbladder surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:30 am, so I have to be in the hospital at 6 am.  I was kind of hoping to get a later time so I can get Diego ready for the day so it seems that is not going to happen. =(

I am also hoping that they don’t keep me overnight for observation as they mentioned since it is Halloween.  I want to spend some of the day with Diego.

Wish me luck!

Baby Steps…

As you know, we haven’t pushed potty training (or learning as some people call it now) on Diego.  Yes, we do ask him if he wants to use the potty but if he says no, that is fine with us.  So it doesn’t hurt to try once in a while right?

Last night, as I was getting Diego for bed, I noticed a dry diaper on him.  So Eric asked him if he wanted to go to the bathroom.  He said yes.  At the first potty, Diego did not want to.  Then I asked him if he want to go to the other potty, he said yes.  And sure enough, he did his business there.  I then put his night time diaper on and got him down to sleep.

Fast forward to this morning:  I took off his diaper and notice that it was dry!  So I asked Diego if he wanted to go potty and he said yes.  Eric sat him down and he went.  This is so exciting!!!

Like I said before, no hard core potty training until we come back from Disney but it is so exciting just to know that he can go.

Half Marathon…

DONE!!!

It took about three hours to finish. There was some technical difficulties with my running partner but she survived too. Now the question is: Will I consider another half marathon? Probably yes. When will it happen? I have no clue.  Maybe the Chicago Half Marathon next year.  I can’t believe I am contemplating running another 13.1 miles.

I am home now and I am nursing my wounds. 😉  Later!

Happy Birthday To Me…

I can’t believe I turn 33 years old today. I have a survived another year. 🙂 I usually make a big deal about my birthday but lately not so much. I don’t feel old by any means but I just don’t think people want to hear about it being my birthday. I am just happy when people remember my day.

( So if you are reading this, it is not too late to call or email me. 😉 )

The best part so far: Eric was able to score tickets to see Wicked tonight. I can’t wait! Woo hoo!!!

Pumpkins In the Park…

We had a fun run at Lincoln Park on Saturday. It was the Pumpkins In The Park 5K. Anyone could dress up if they wanted to. I wore my Mickey Sorcerer ears that I got 7 years ago. Diego got to wear his giraffe costume. We had a hard time keeping it on him since it is very warm and fussy. Eric came as a runner. =) We barely arrived in time for the Kids Spooky Sprints.

I lined Diego up with the other 2 year olds. I was telling he needed to run towards Papa. Eric was at the finish line by then and waved to make sure he got Diego’s attention. Diego knew where he was. So they blew the air horn and Diego took off. He easily won his sprint. He looked really adorable running. Check out the video of Diego’s Sprint. The problem was the once he got to the finish line, he did not run towards Papa like we hoped, he just kept going. I was running right behind him. Fortunately, another parent saw what was happening, he was able to reach out and stop him. What a kid!

All the little kids got a medal which is really cute. It is the logo of the race. Of course he wore it proudly for about 5 minutes and then wanted to remove his costume.

So then the adults got ready for the 5K. I had the honor of pushing Diego in the stroller. There was a lot of runners and it was a small path were we had to start. Once the air horn blew, we waited a bit so we can get in the line. It was a great run. It was overcast and in the low 60’s. There were a couple of bottlenecks but we survived. Eric ran his race in 32:20 and I ran in 34:26, which was really slow but I was pushing a jogging stroller. =)

Afterward, we got some water, Gatorade, bananas, apples and cheese pizza. We had some free beer coupons. Eric happily went to get the beer. We stuck around for a bit. There were lots of families with their young kids like us. We are definitely going to participate again next year. It was such a great party.

Another Attack…

It has been almost 3 months since my gallbladder attack.  Got another one today.  Only three more weeks until my surgery.  I just hope it does not interfere with my two upcoming races.

I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

90 Degrees…

That was the temperature at 10:30 this morning while watching the Chicago Marathon. I heard later that the race was called off at about 11 am and all the runners that made it to the half way point at that time were diverted back to Grant Park. Any runner that had past this point would be allowed to finish. It was just crazy hot.

We went out there at 9 am to see the lead runners run by. We were sitting between the 19th and 20th miles about 1/4 mile away from the 20th mile. By 9:15ish, the two lead male on wheelchairs flew right by us. They looked so intense and did not even look like they were racing. It was amazing. A few more wheelchair racers flew by including the first female in the lead.

About ten minutes later, we saw some cars coming. One of the cars was the official pace truck that had the time on top of it. There was a cluster of 5 males running behind it. Their time was 1:38 at that time. It was really great. We cheered them on.

By then, more wheelchair runners were coming so we decided to take a walk along part of the course. I didn’t even realized how close we were to the 20 mile mark. Lots of people were rooting all the runners. There were little girls doing cheers. Loud speakers blaring feel good music. We got one of those cow bells so Diego had a field day clanking it while we were there.

About 20 minutes after the men leads ran by, we saw another pace truck coming. I knew the female lead runners were right behind them. Now that is what I was waiting for. It was really an inspiration to see them run in preparation for my half marathon. I just hope that it isn’t 90 degrees then. 🙂
