Day At The Races…

Happy 4th of July!! What better way to celebrate by going to see some horse races.

Eric had a great idea this morning. We had no idea what to do before going to a BBQ. He suggested going to Arlington Park. So we quickly got ready and left a bit after 12 PM. The first race started at 1 PM. Got there in the nick of time.

When we got there, we thought it was going to rain. There was hardly any sun. There were these really angry looking clouds moving across the sky. The good thing thought was even thought it was hot, no sun to add to the misery. The sun did come out right after the third race though. But it was fine since we were planning to leave right after the four race.

We saw 4 races. The last one was the best one because they were practicing right in front of us and Diego got see the horses.

Not a Mint Julep

While we were waiting for the races to start, there were activities for the kids. They had pony rides and face painting which Diego participated in both.

On the way home, he just knocked out.
So Tired

It was a good way of ending the day at the races.

False Alarms…

My aunt had called me yesterday during the day that that smoke alarms were going off. Completely freaked her out. I know she was cooking so I told her to open all the windows so there could be some wind blowing thru the house. We got home and all is well.

Well, this morning Eric opened the door to the balcony and the door alarm when off. I was up stairs getting Diego ready when this happened. Poor kid freaked out and held onto my legs. I had to rush and turn off the alarm so I had break Diego’s death grip on my legs. I just left him laying on the floor. Poor kid! But even when I turned the alarm off, the fire alarms kept going. 😯

Eric is pressing the reset buttons on the alarms and they quieted down for a bit and they started again. So, Eric called ADT to see what can be going on. They told him to vacuum the alarms and change all the batteries. So we did. Six alarms, six batteries. Thankfully, we had them in the house because I bought a four pack 9V batteries about a month or so again plus there was a two pack already here. Phew!

All thru this time, Diego is just clamped on me like nobody’s business. My poor baby was so traumatized during this time he was just shaking like a leaf. 😦

So I took the day off to make sure the alarms did not go off again. I wish it was on better terms this impromptu day off happened but here I am. Got to take care of the family.

Ouch…

On Sunday, I slammed the truck door on my left index finger. I mean, my finger got stuck in the door jam. Not good! All I did was yell “OUCH!” and opened the door as fast as I could with my right hand. Slight bleeding, some missing skin but nothing major. I just have a band-aid covering it. It looks something out of a horror movie. 🙂

I can’t wait until it heals, taking a shower with mostly one hand is a little tough. 😛

Run For The Zoo…

Here is my report for this morning’s race:

It was a beautiful morning! Cloudy up until I hit the finish line. We ran right thru the middle of Lincoln Park Zoo. It was a little crowded in parts of the zoo but I was able to manage to run thru it. My time was under 32 (or 33) minutes. 😯 I can’t remember which because I was so focused on crossing the line before the timer hit 32(33):00, that I truly can’t remember the time. I want to say under 32 min though. I will check tomorrow for my official time (we were wearing championchips).

ETA on June 5: I finally checked to see my official time. 31:31!!! OMG! I can’t believe it!!! Yay!!!

Afterwards, Diego ran his Kangaroo Hop race. Came in last! But he got a really cute medal so it was worth it. 🙂

Happy June…

Wow, it is the first day of June. We are almost half way thru the year already. I can’t believe how fast the time is going.

Well, we have officially started planning Diego’s party. The date is July 29, 2007. The venue will be at the Labagh Woods, grove 2 to be exact. This is the exact spot that I had my family baby shower two years ago. It will be nice to go back. The theme will be Blue’s Clues. Need to get my booty moving to get this planned.

There is only a problem with July 29: I have my 10K race that morning at 8 am. I am not going to think about how tired I will be at the end of that day. Eck!

Running At Night…

Have you ever had that feeling that you need to do something before the day is over or else you regret that you did not do it? That was me tonight.

I was supposed to go running at the gym today during lunch. I was just plain lazy and did not do it. But right after I left for lunch I regretted not going.

For the rest of the day, I had the nagging feeling that I needed to go and take a run. But I was just making excuse why I should go running: it will be late, I need a shower, blah, blah & blah!

After Diego went to bed (about 8:30 pm), I told Eric I was going to go for a run. I put on my new running skirt (I needed to try it out), a t-shirt, iPod and out the door I went. I figured the safest route was down Halsted St. Click here to check out my route.

It was a fantastic night to run. Light breeze, cool temp and just a nice run overall. Almost 2.4 miles in 26 minutes.

Now I feel like I accomplished something and can go to sleep with no regrets. 🙂

Beautiful Saturday…

It was gorgeous today. It hit 76 degrees, sunny and clear. Our morning start early.

We went for a run. I ran about 2.6 miles and Eric ran/walked the 2.6 miles. Mostly ran but he stopped for a bit, but I want to add that he was pushing Diego on a jogging stroller and I wasn’t.

Afterwards, we went for a cool down walk. Went home and showered. After a while, Diego took a nap. We figured he was going to sleep for about 1 hour. Nope, he slept for almost three hours. 😯 He hasn’t done that in our presence in a long time. I was able to take an hour nap.

After he woke up, we went to the playground. Diego always has a good time. He like to play with the older kids, 3-5 year olds. Good thing they know him because they have patience with him.

Once we were done there, we walked to Cold Stone Creamery. I had the Berry Berry Berry Good and Eric had the Cookie Mintser. We shared with Diego and he loved it. He kept going from me to Eric back to me and so forth. 😀

After that, we walked around the neighborhood. We went into the UIC fields and watched the ending of the Women’s Softball game. The last swing of the game produced a three run home run. Very exciting!!

When we got home, we watched Blue’s Clues and Jack’s Big Music Show. Then Diego took a bath and off to bed he soon went.

It was a beautiful day and tomorrow it promises to be another (it supposed to hit 78 degrees).

Chai Type Of Day…

As I was going home, I stopped by Starbucks to get a Chai Latte. There was a gentleman there ordering a Venti Chai Latte. Then it was my turn, I ordered a Tall Chai Latte with soy milk. As I was ordering, another gentleman enter the shop. He ordered a Grande Chai Latte. It must’ve been a Chai type of afternoon. 😆

First Movie Experience…

We ended up in Milwaukee for Easter. We went to breakfast. Diego saw the Easter Bunny there. Not a very impressive EB but at least he was not frightened.

After breakfast, we (the group) decided to go to the movies to see the Meet the Robinsons movie. It was Diego’s first movie at the movie theater. I was a little apprehensive about taking him because well you know, little kids and movies usually don’t mix. It was the first show, it was a kid’s movie and there wasn’t that many people in the theater. So far so good. Diego hadn’t taken a nap yet so we thought that perhaps he might sleep through it.

With Diego situated on my lap, the lights dim and the previews started. Lots of new kid movies coming up (Underdog, Shrek the Third, Ratatouille, & Nancy Drew). Then the light go out and a Mickey Mouse cartoon starts. MM is so cute! Then cue the movie. It was great. Diego was so interested in it he must’ve forgotten to take the nap I was hoping for. He switched laps between Eric and I a few times but other than that, he seemed to enjoy it. Every time someone would get into a car, he would wave and say “bye!”

The only drama during the movie was that he over peed his diaper. He soaked himself and me. Eric ran out to get his dry clothes. So during the movie, we had to get Diego redressed. Diego did not even complained. 🙂

Overall, the movie experience was an A plus. Great job Diego!!!

A Very Good Friday…

I am still tired from yesterday. We (well, not so much me but I helped when I could) started cooking since 7 am and did not stop until 2 pm. The menu included Lima Bean Soup, Shrimp Cocktail, and Stuffed Peppers with rice. It was a lot of food. The good think almost everyone made it: my parents, my ILs, my aunt & family, oldest brother and youngest nephew, and surprise guests: Eric’s grandparents. Everyone eat a little of everything. We had a little bit of leftovers that we ate today. We still have Lima Bean Soup and some stuffed peppers left but everything else is gone. That is always a good thing.

Diego on the other hand came out ahead. He got some Little People presents. He got the Little People™ Cars, Trucks, Planes, and Trains book, Little People Books and a Little People The Big Parade Interactive Sound Book. And he also got some $$$. Lucky kid! =)

I am not sure if we are still going to Milwaukee tomorrow. It is going to hit 40 degrees tomorrow but up there it is only going to hit 38. Still cold. Brrrr! Whatever ever Eric says it will be fine with me.
