Wow…

That was Diego’s reaction to the Christmas tree this morning.  His exact line was “Wow, a Christmas tree!”  Too cute!

We finally got around putting the tree up last night.  We always do but this year was so worth it with the reaction Diego had. *sigh*

Festival of Lights ’07…

It is beginning to look like Christmas…

It was a cold and blustery night. It was slightly drizzling. But that not keep us away from attending the annual Festival of Lights parade. It was us three, Maggie and her boyfriend Eddie. We were all huddling to we can keep warm.

We were at the end of the route. I *heart* that area because 1) there isn’t that many people, 2) we are right in front of the fireworks and 3) we a few blocks away from the parking garage which makes a quick getaway.

The bad thing about being at the end is we have to wait a good 45 minutes before the parade gets there. But we still have fun waiting.. Eddie was not properly dressed which I had told Maggie to dress warmly. Men!

Finally we saw the parade cross the Michigan Ave. bridge and a few minutes we saw Mickey. How exciting!!! Diego was waving to anyone. He really enjoyed it. Besides Mickey, we saw Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. There was helium snowflakes and ornaments. There were a couple of bands (one of them was UIC‘s). And there was even Corbin Blue from High School Musical was there (haven’t seen these movies yet but you should have seen the teeny boppers and their moms screaming at him).

The parade hadn’t even finished when the fireworks went off. They had some really cool fireworks these year. Finally Santa came by. Diego waved and waved. Got to love it! The fireworks finished and it was time to get out of the cold and back home.

Only 7 more days until our Disney Vacation. 🙂

Pumpkins In the Park…

We had a fun run at Lincoln Park on Saturday. It was the Pumpkins In The Park 5K. Anyone could dress up if they wanted to. I wore my Mickey Sorcerer ears that I got 7 years ago. Diego got to wear his giraffe costume. We had a hard time keeping it on him since it is very warm and fussy. Eric came as a runner. =) We barely arrived in time for the Kids Spooky Sprints.

I lined Diego up with the other 2 year olds. I was telling he needed to run towards Papa. Eric was at the finish line by then and waved to make sure he got Diego’s attention. Diego knew where he was. So they blew the air horn and Diego took off. He easily won his sprint. He looked really adorable running. Check out the video of Diego’s Sprint. The problem was the once he got to the finish line, he did not run towards Papa like we hoped, he just kept going. I was running right behind him. Fortunately, another parent saw what was happening, he was able to reach out and stop him. What a kid!

All the little kids got a medal which is really cute. It is the logo of the race. Of course he wore it proudly for about 5 minutes and then wanted to remove his costume.

So then the adults got ready for the 5K. I had the honor of pushing Diego in the stroller. There was a lot of runners and it was a small path were we had to start. Once the air horn blew, we waited a bit so we can get in the line. It was a great run. It was overcast and in the low 60’s. There were a couple of bottlenecks but we survived. Eric ran his race in 32:20 and I ran in 34:26, which was really slow but I was pushing a jogging stroller. =)

Afterward, we got some water, Gatorade, bananas, apples and cheese pizza. We had some free beer coupons. Eric happily went to get the beer. We stuck around for a bit. There were lots of families with their young kids like us. We are definitely going to participate again next year. It was such a great party.

Diego the Giraffe…

I am so excited today. I got Diego’s new costume in the mail today. The minute he saw it, he wanted to wear it. But after a few minutes, he got hot really fast. So he was trying to take it off hence the pitiful look on his face. Poor kid! He barely stood still so I can take the picture.

I can’t wait for the Halloween festivities to begin. Yay!!

Day At The Races…

Happy 4th of July!! What better way to celebrate by going to see some horse races.

Eric had a great idea this morning. We had no idea what to do before going to a BBQ. He suggested going to Arlington Park. So we quickly got ready and left a bit after 12 PM. The first race started at 1 PM. Got there in the nick of time.

When we got there, we thought it was going to rain. There was hardly any sun. There were these really angry looking clouds moving across the sky. The good thing thought was even thought it was hot, no sun to add to the misery. The sun did come out right after the third race though. But it was fine since we were planning to leave right after the four race.

We saw 4 races. The last one was the best one because they were practicing right in front of us and Diego got see the horses.

Not a Mint Julep

While we were waiting for the races to start, there were activities for the kids. They had pony rides and face painting which Diego participated in both.

On the way home, he just knocked out.
So Tired

It was a good way of ending the day at the races.

First Movie Experience…

We ended up in Milwaukee for Easter. We went to breakfast. Diego saw the Easter Bunny there. Not a very impressive EB but at least he was not frightened.

After breakfast, we (the group) decided to go to the movies to see the Meet the Robinsons movie. It was Diego’s first movie at the movie theater. I was a little apprehensive about taking him because well you know, little kids and movies usually don’t mix. It was the first show, it was a kid’s movie and there wasn’t that many people in the theater. So far so good. Diego hadn’t taken a nap yet so we thought that perhaps he might sleep through it.

With Diego situated on my lap, the lights dim and the previews started. Lots of new kid movies coming up (Underdog, Shrek the Third, Ratatouille, & Nancy Drew). Then the light go out and a Mickey Mouse cartoon starts. MM is so cute! Then cue the movie. It was great. Diego was so interested in it he must’ve forgotten to take the nap I was hoping for. He switched laps between Eric and I a few times but other than that, he seemed to enjoy it. Every time someone would get into a car, he would wave and say “bye!”

The only drama during the movie was that he over peed his diaper. He soaked himself and me. Eric ran out to get his dry clothes. So during the movie, we had to get Diego redressed. Diego did not even complained. 🙂

Overall, the movie experience was an A plus. Great job Diego!!!
