I Did It…

I completed my first 8K!!!  The Shamrock Shuffle 2007 was a blast. Sure, it took at least 12 minutes to get to the starting line but it was awesome just to see all these people just running. The course was fantastic. I never ran around the loop before. Crossed the Chicago River four different times. Ran right in the middle of State St. Also, ran right by work. =)

Play by play:
1st mile: This mile was the fastest I’ve ever ran. I did it in 10:10 minutes. Just amazed as to how many people were running. I had to zigged and zagged around some runners. Hit the first bridge and it was a little hard because I hadn’t done any inclines but I knew to run it slow uphill and take advantage of the down hill.

2nd mile: The bridge under Michigan Ave. was tricky. My foot hit a small pothole but it landed squarely in the middle so I didn’t even stumble. Just realized that I need to be careful and I did not need to wear my sunglasses. I was just hoping to see Eric and Diego soon so I can pass them off to them. My hat would be good enough. Hit the second mile marker at about 22 minutes.

3rd mile: I was looking for Eric and Diego. Needed to pass the glasses since I had put them on top of my hat. Finally I saw them. Ran, said hi and passed my glasses. The water station was past them. I got a cup of Gatorade but I had to stop to drink it. I just don’t know how people can run and drink at the same time. When I hit the third mile marker, it read about 33 minutes.

4rd mile: I saw the 5K marker. I ran it in 34 minutes!! Made my race at that point. Plus I still had to run 2 more miles which is more than I have ran before. Crossed the river for the last time. I was getting a little tired by this time so I was really concentrating on my breathing. Saw my cheering section by State and Jackson. That made me even more determined to continue running. Finally arrived at Michigan Ave. The time was about 44 minutes.

5 mile: This was the hardest mile ever. Running towards Roosevelt Rd. wasn’t too bad because it was flat but after making the left turn towards Columbus Dr. it was uphill from there. That was the hardest three blocks ever. When I finally got to make that left turn again and saw the finish line, it was heaven but I still had a bit more running to do.

Finished at last!! The official chip time was 55:45 minutes. I am so glad it was over. =)

Found my family about 20-30 minutes later. It was just mad chaos everywhere. Would I do another 10K? I am already thinking about doing another one. =)

Cloth Diaper – Night 4

Diego woke up wet again. Nothing too major since Eric was the one who got him this morning. He did say the crib was not wet but his pants and onesie were. The am throwing the towel on these BG 2.0. I thought they were going to help but it just caused more headaches. Maybe I will investigate the Bummies Wraps instead.

Tonight Diego is sleeping with his overnight.

Cloth Diaper – Night 3

Diego woke up wet.  More than yesterday but a lot less than Wednesday.  In his crib there was a wet spot.  I think I am giving up on these diapers.  I wonder if there are better ones for him.  I don’t want to stuff the diaper any more since they just his size and don’t want to make him uncomfortable.  At least I tried. =(

I guess it is time to throw the white flag in the ring and return the diapers I bought.  Maybe they have something better.  If not, then back to the Overnights.

Cloth Diaper – Night 2

Diego woke up a little damp.  His lounge pants and onesie were the victims. The crib was dry so that was a good thing.  The diaper was soaked but I think it did its job.  After getting some advice yesterday, I wrapped the insert with another cloth diaper before putting it on.  I think that helped a lot.

Eric is still not convinced that cloth diapers are a good thing.  He just doesn’t want to mess with them at all.  My thing is that he hasn’t even changed his cloth diaper these past two days.  I am the one doing this.  I am going to continue doing this for another 5 days.  If it is more trouble than it is worth, then I am returning them.  But so far, the diapers aren’t the trouble, it is Eric who is.  So I wonder if I can return him and will I get my money back?  😉

Cloth Diaper – Night 1

It wasn’t so good.

Diego woke up at 12:30 am crying. The poor kid looked like someone dumped a bucket of water in his crib. But it is my fault though. He went to Little Gym yesterday from 6:30 to 7:15 pm. He drank 10 oz of his juice concoction plus whatever he had before we got home from work. I try really hard not to give him any liquids after 6 pm but this is the only exception for the week. I do think he would have gotten soaked even if he was wearing his Overnights so no negative thoughts towards the BGs just yet.

Tonight I will put the BGs on again but I will put extra padding in there. I hope it won’t be as bad as last night. So tonight will be the first day of normal use. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

My Name is Bagel…

For a couple of weeks, I have been trying to teach Diego how to say “My name is Diego.”  He gets the “My name” down pretty well but his name is a problem right now.  Eric swears he is saying “My name is bagel,” but I say no.  Why?  Because in Diego’s mind he is saying Diego but his daddy does not understand that. =)  I actually think it funny too because he really does sound like he is saying “My name is bagel.”

Must get a recording of this soon.  My poor baby!  =D

Cloth Diapering…

Diego has been soaking thru his diaper at night. Especially when he drinks a lot before going to bed. I try to avoid giving him any drinks after 6 pm but sometimes he asks for a drink so I give it to him since I don’t want to deny him this. I mean, if you are thirsty, you take a drink. Same for Diego.

Well, anyway, he already wears Huggies Overnights which are already think but they are not thick enough on some nights. On the nights they do work, awesome and yay all around. But on the nights they don’t work, then it is a wet kid and sometimes even a wet crib. So after checking around, I decided to go for cloth diapers.

These are not your old fashion cloth diapers. They are the bumGenius 2.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper. I got them today. I bought three different colors: White, Grasshopper (green) and Twilight (blue). They look great. I get to try one for 14 days and see if it works. I truly hope so. If it doesn’t, I get to return them and get my money back. They were not cheap. They were $17 each. I figure if they work, he will probably wear them for 6 months so it comes out even. We shall see. The test starts tomorrow.

Justin Concert…

I am desperately need of a nap right now, but we had a great time.

I am glad I went.  I am not a huge fan of his but it was a really great concert.

Pink was the opening act.  She was great.  She was on for 45 minutes.  She did some funky trapeze act at the end.  I wish I was that limber. =)

There was a 30-40 minute break.  After some people watching*, Justin appeared.  The crowd went nuts.  It is amazing how loud the crowd roar was.

Manda swears JT was singing to her. Laughing Every time I glanced at her, she was swooning. She reminded me of this smiley:

He sang all his popular tunes, plus others I never heard of.  I am definitely going to buy his latest album.  I have been meaning too but it hasn’t been top priority.

There was a 15 minute break with Timbaland mixing it up.  He later came back to sing SexyBack with Justin.

Took a while to get out of the parking lot.  Once we did, traffic was light which was good since it was 12:30 am when I dropped Manda home.

I got home before 1 AM.  Brushed teeth and put my jammers on and crashed.

*There were a lot of dumb people around us but it just added more entertainment to the night.

*What makes people show up to their seats 2 HOURS after the concert started?!?!?!?
