I can’t believe this…

Today there was a family fair at the park next door.  We had gotten an postcard from our alderman,Daniel Solis, inviting us to this event. So we went. When we got there, I signed up for a free raffle.  They were raffling off four bikes and a pair of roundtrip airplane tickets.  Just as I finished entering, they raffled of a bike.  My number was #239 and the number they picked was #240.  Bummer!  So they announced that at 1:30 they were going to raffle off the rest of the prizes.  So we went home since it was getting cold.  I told Eric I wanted to come back to check out the drawing ‘cuz you just never know.

So I went back.  They raffled off the prizes.  I won the tickets!!!  They are two roundtrip tickets within the continental US from Southwest Airlines. Now I have to call the alderman’s office on Monday to see how I pick the tickets/vouchers. I am so happy! I have never won anything like this. Now we need to figure out were we want to go!

AIDS Run Walk Chicago 2006

I am so excited about doing this.  I am going to do the 5k run.  I haven’t done this running thing for a while so I figured this is a good way of motivating myself in doing something good.  Not just for me but for this cause.  I am going to try to raise some cash.  My goal is $50 but I may just bump it up to more.  You just never know who may be interested.  Here is the link to my page so you can get more information for this fundraiser.  Hope you can help out.

Went running…

This is so exciting.  I went running today.  A whopping 1.5 miles in 20 minutes.  I know it is not a big deal but it is for me.  I haven’t done this running thing for two years (or more!!) so I was very nervous.  My goal was to run one mile non-stop.  Once I got to that point, I felt like I could run another half mile.  And I did.  I think I could’ve done two miles but I did not want to push myself.  Let’s see I wake up tomorrow.  =)

Happy Labor Day…

Well, it is the beginning of the end of summer.  I know we will probably have a few more hot days but it won’t be the same anymore.  The mornings and nights will be cool.  And the days will get shorter.  Alas, once we were complaining about the hot weather, now we will start complaining on how cold it is getting.  A never-ending cycle.  Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Softball tournament…

Just got back from Eric’s softball tournament.  They were doing really well.  They won their first game (16-10) which I expected.  Diego and I showed up after that.  Then they played their second game.  They won that one as well.  I think the score was 6-1.  Their third game was tougher.  They lost the semi-final, 7-2.  Bummer!  This is the furthest they have ever gotten.  It is hard on Eric since he has been the coach for the past 4 years.  He hasn’t spoken about giving coaching up this year.  Last year he tried but everyone did not want him to give it up.  Plus, no one really wanted to do it either.  Well, we will see what happens.  There is always next year.

On the plus side, Diego had a ball.  He was so good.  He was busy checking out some bikes, eating, and drinking.  Too cute!   Everyone enjoys him being there.  I was hoping he would knock out on the way home and he did.  He is taking a nice nap in his crib.  I am hoping for at least an hour so.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Can’t sleep…

A family member died last week.  He was only 45.  It was an accident.  The wake was today.  There was over 100, maybe 200 people there.  It was so sad.  His wife, kids, parents, sisters, brothers, family from who knows where, friends…there was so many people there, it was hot. Unfortunately, the a/c couldn’t keep up.  They had a video/slide show going on.  Just sad.  We paid our condolences.  Said hello to a few people I haven’t see in a long time.  And we left.  But not really, my heart is there with them.  I cannot imagine what they are going thru.  The last time I saw him was June at a party.  He looked so different now.  He just looked thin and empty.  May he rest in peace.

Yet, we keep moving on.

On the other hand…

We had a great weekend though.  This is how the weekend went:

Friday night: we went to pick up Diego’s pictures from JCPenney.  We also went to exchange some clothes at GAP Kids.  He recieved some fall stuff that probably won’t fit him when fall actually arrives.  We also went to Whole Foods to look for Yobaby yogurt.  They had a ton.  Bought enough for a month.

Saturday:  Diego had his class at the Little Gym.  He seems to get the class now.  He is more interactive with the class.  He is always a trooper.  FIL called Eric later that day.  He decided to do a cookout.  That was nice.  The food was a lot better than last time we went.  Eric bbq’ed the chicken which was delicious.  Diego had a ball playing in vegetable garden.  He was playing with dirt, green tomatos and some apples.  Then he rediscovered greatgrandpa’s cane.  It was cute, he traded a green apple for the cane.  At least he did not make a fuss when we gave the cane back.

Sunday: We went to Brookfield Zoo.  We mostly hung out at the Children’s Zoo.  Diego was able to pet a minature horse named Whisper.  We also saw the BZTV show.  We saw some animals doing tricks.  I think Diego understood some of things that were going on because once in a while he would point at something.  I was thinking about going to the parent’s house but Diego fell asleep so we just went home.

Still sick…

This really sucks.  I hate being sick since I been feeling like I am in a bubble for the past few days.  At least I have been sleeping at night.  I have been taking some Tylenol Cough & Cold so that has helped a lot.
