Cloth Diapering…

Diego has been soaking thru his diaper at night. Especially when he drinks a lot before going to bed. I try to avoid giving him any drinks after 6 pm but sometimes he asks for a drink so I give it to him since I don’t want to deny him this. I mean, if you are thirsty, you take a drink. Same for Diego.

Well, anyway, he already wears Huggies Overnights which are already think but they are not thick enough on some nights. On the nights they do work, awesome and yay all around. But on the nights they don’t work, then it is a wet kid and sometimes even a wet crib. So after checking around, I decided to go for cloth diapers.

These are not your old fashion cloth diapers. They are the bumGenius 2.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper. I got them today. I bought three different colors: White, Grasshopper (green) and Twilight (blue). They look great. I get to try one for 14 days and see if it works. I truly hope so. If it doesn’t, I get to return them and get my money back. They were not cheap. They were $17 each. I figure if they work, he will probably wear them for 6 months so it comes out even. We shall see. The test starts tomorrow.

The Potty Saga Continues…

As previously written, Diego has used the potty chair once. We are really not pushing this but when the opportunity arises, we go for it. Usually after we bathe Diego was bathed, we let him play in the tub for a little while. After a while, we noticed he was grunting. I hightailed it to get the potty chair from the downstairs bathroom. We take Diego out of the bath, dry him off a little bit and sit him down on the chair. He was pointing to himself and saying “poo poo” in Spanish. We were cheering him on. So we waited and waited. He was playing with some rubber “ucks” while sitting on the potty. And we waited some more. This went on for about 30 minutes. So finally Eric finally asked Diego if he wanted up. He did and we noticed that he had gone number 1. Diego peed in the potty and we did not even notice. Yay!!!

Saga continues…

Big Boy Milestone…

Diego used the potty today!!! OMG! I don’t care if he doesn’t use it for another two weeks or months, but I was just so excited when my aunt told me.

This past weekend we bought a potty chair for Diego, this one. He went with us so we had him try it to make sure he could sit on it. Took it home and put it in the powder room. He sees it every time we open the powder room.

So today, my aunt noticed Diego was pushing. You can so tell because he turns bright red and he holds is breath. She took off his pants and diaper and sat him on his potty. She then told him to push and she demonstrated. So he did and pooped in the potty!!!

I had just had a conversation with Eric about buying him some Pull Ups instead of his normal Huggies. We have one big box left. We shall see how this continues…

Squishy…

Pregnancy Flashback:

When we first saw the baby’s ultrasound, we were in awe. It was amazing that we were looking at someone who was growing inside of me. The funny thing is we both pictured two different things: Eric pictured Tweety and I pictured ET. Don’t ask. LOL!

After getting a copy of the ultrasound, I decide to call the baby “Squishy.” Don’t know why it came to me all of the sudden and it fit perfectly. In the movie Finding Nemo, one of the main characters, Dory, finds a baby jellyfish and says “I shall call him squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my squishy!”

Not sure why I thought of this line but it just felt perfect. So for the reset of my pregnancy, the baby was known as Squishy.

Happy Valentine’s Day Diego!

5 am…

Diego woke up at 5 am this wonderful morning.  I knew already that he was going to wake up early but I am (gratefully) surprised it was at 5 and not 1 am.

Why did I know this?  Because the night before, he drank 10 ounces of juice before he went to bed.  When he does this (and I try to avoid it because of this), he has the tendency to soak himself.  His diaper cannot hold the amount necessary to not soak himself.  It was crazy.  Soaked his diaper, onesie, pajamas and his crib sheet.

As expected he was not happy.  I had to strip him down.  Thankfully Eric helped out.

After getting him into dry clothes and a dry diaper, I sat down in his rocking chair.  It was 5:30 am.  We eventually fell asleep.  I woke up at 6 am but I had a dilema:  1) Put him in the crib and risk him waking up or 2) just stay in the chair and be uncomfortable for the next hour and half.  Chose option 2 of course.

Things we do for our children.  =)

Diego’s 18 month check up…

Here are his stats:

Weight: 26 lb 13 oz (60-70%)
Height: 33 3/4 in (85%)
Head: 19 3/4 in (95%)

Diego is getting taller and getting skinner. =D

He got one shot today. His first one given to him on the arm. Eric held/hugged him to keep him still. I was trying to get Diego’s attention so he wouldn’t look at the nurse giving him the shot. But he kept looking at his arm. Nurse gave him the shot and not a flinch from the boy. Nothing! I was so proud.

…my baby was born! I can’t believe he is 18 months old, one and half year old, 549 day old, 78 weeks old, 47,433,600 seconds and counting, well, you get the point.

Diego is getting so big. I don’t have his measurements but he reaches my waist already. And he is heavy! He is changing so much. He is no longer my baby. =( He is a full blown toddler. *sigh*

He said “zapatoes” this morning for the first time. He had already been saying “shoes” for a while so it was nice to hear him say a spanish word to the list. As of today, he is saying the following: mama, papa, cheese, shoe, blue, apple, Nala, bye, banana, truck, and others I can’t remember right now. He is very “vocal,” which means he “talks” you in Chinese most of the time. 😀

He will be going to the ped next week so I will have better stats by then.

Here is my baby!

Haircut #3…

Diego got his hair cut today.   It is haircut number 3.  It was done at KidSnips by Sheri. She asked us if this was Diego’s first haircut. “No,” we said, “it is his 3rd.” Poor kid really needed it cut. She was great. Diego is a pro at this. No cry, no screaming, no nothing. Watched a Seasame Street DVD that was on. The cool thing was, the little boy who was before him, Kade, is in Little Gym with Diego. Eric recognized him and we said hello/bye as they were leaving. Small world!

No Diego today; Girl’s Day Out…

Yep, that is correct: no Diego from 10:45 am to 5:45 pm.  Eric took care of Diego all day! Now that is a reason why I love this man.

Two of Eric’s Milwaukee cousins came to Chicago today.  They brought two out-of-town cousins (they are from Plano, TX) and two friends.  So it was totally girl’s day out on the town.

We went to the Millennium Park. We did a little window shopping on the Michigan Ave. Then we hopped on the free trolley to Navy Pier. When we got there, we were tired from the walking so we rested for a bit. During this time, we had some Starbucks (thanks Maggie!). Then the fun really started.

We went to the Build-A-Bear store. One of the girls bought a Hello Kitty for her daughter. It was really cute. Got her a couple of outfits with matching footware. I bought a Bears Uniform for Diego’s bear, Cubby.

So then we took the trolley to Water Tower Place. We went Victoria Secret’s first. Then we went to Foodlife. It is a really cool restaurant that has 13 food stations: Mexican, Chinese, American, Italian, etc. Have to shout out to Laura who treated me to dinner, THANKS!

By then, we were tired and full so I called Eric to pick us up and take us home. The Milwaukee Crew’s ride had showed up and then they went home. I had a great time but in the end, I was just happy to see Diego. I missed him so much!
